Our flowers are disappearing.
Of the 400,000 documented flowering plants, 45% are threatened with extinction due to climate change and habitat loss from things like urban development, palm oil plantations and livestock. Such a loss would prove devastating. Plants underpin all life on Earth- they regulate our climate, clean the air, stabilize the soil, and provide vast amounts of raw materials, food and medicine. In fact, 15,000 plant species contain chemical compounds that can be used medicinally; nine out of ten of our medicines come from plants.
Researchers estimate we have yet to find 15% of the world’s flora. Of the estimated 100,000 plants that remain undiscovered, 77% may go extinct before discovery.
My melting floral paintings are an ode to the flowers we will never get to discover. Their blurred forms dance across the canvas, dissolving into obscurity forever.
May these paintings inspire a sense of appreciation for our floral treasures, and a greater urgency to act to save them.
Our flowers and plants are disappearing.
-Plants underpin all aspects of our human wellbeing, from climate regulation, through to medicine, food and fiber and fuels.
Air pollution is destroying the fragrance of flowers and inhibiting the ability of bees and other insects to follow scent trails to their source,
Nine out of ten human medicines come from plants, but new species are dying out before scientists have even formally described them

“It's very rarely taught as 'this is a really important discipline because plants underpin all aspects of our human wellbeing,' from climate regulation, through to food and fiber and fuels.”
“Everywhere around the world, flowers represent peace, happiness, and prosperity. We might not all speak the same language, but we can all read flowers….”
Did you know that plants and trees account for 99% of all living organisms on this planet? Not only are they considered the lungs of our planet, but they provide us with all of our medicines.
Flowers have long been universal symbols of beauty, love, and the ephemeral nature of life. Their vibrant colors and delicate forms are what artistic dreams are made of. However, they are far more than just eye-candy. Flowers and plants underpin all aspects of our human wellbeing, from climate regulation, through to medicine, food and fiber and fuels.
“My art is about happiness, enrichment, and re-enchantment; I want people to feel joy by reconnecting them with the calmness of nature, which is why the flower is so dominant in my paintings. Everywhere around the world, flowers represent peace, happiness, and prosperity. We might not all speak the same language, but we can all read flowers…."
