Call to Action

It is hard to not feel overwhelmed by the weight and the hopelessness of our future. But we are not helpless. Together we can take steps to create a better tomorrow for the planet and all of its beings.
  • The journey of healing this planet begins when we dare to  look honestly inwards and rewrite the narratives that have blinded us to reality.

We have been sold a faulty dream through capitalism—a vision promising endless prosperity and happiness tied to material wealth. This dream suggests that success is measured by accumulation, that value lies in consumption, and that fulfillment comes from owning more. Yet, beneath this glossy surface, it breeds inequality, disconnection, war and environmental degradation. The relentless pursuit of profit comes at the expense of community, humanity and the planet.

It is time to recognize the cracks in this dream and unsustainable system and imagine new ways of living that honor both humanity and nature.

This resource list is intended as a humble jump-off point to challenge what you know. Growing together is the only way forward.

    Resource List

  • From the clothes you buy to the food that you eat, what and how you consume (or rather, don’t) matters.

Leverage your buying power to create the world you wish to see.

Be mindful and buy only what you truly need. Buy less, but invest in quality that lasts. Cherish and extend the lifecycle of your belongings through repair, sharing, and re-use. Do your research- boycott companies who support war or engage in unethical practices. Align with brands whose values reflect your own. Choose integrity over convenience. Embrace plant-based options and minimize reliance on industrial animal agriculture. Reduce plastic in all forms, from packaging to polyester textiles. Opt for sustainable materials -but don’t fall for greenwashing. Prioritize products made sustainably, locally, and with intention, and encourage a marketplace where care and conscience reign over mass production and exploitation.

We must shift away from disposable culture toward mindful stewardship of natural resources.

    Each decision you make matters.

    Resource List

  • We are in a crisis of disconnection from nature and desperately need to be rewilded. As Robin Wall Kimmerer writes in Braiding Sweetgrass, “in our modern world, can we find our way to understand the earth as a gift again, to make our relations with the world sacred again”.

She explains that our current framework of grammar and science treats the universe as a collection of objects, rather than a communion of subjects. “When we tell them that the tree is not a who, but an it, we make that maple an object; we put a barrier between us, absolving ourselves of moral responsibility and opening the door to exploitation. Saying it makes a living land into “natural resources”. If a maple is an it, we can take up the chain saw. If a maple is a her, we think twice…Maybe a grammar of animacy could lead us to whole new ways of living in the world, other species a sovereign people, a world with a democracy of species, not a tyranny of one- with moral responsibility to water and wolves, and with a legal system that recognizes the standing of other species. It’s all in the pronouns”.

What better way to truly understand Mother Nature as a ‘her’ than to spend time connecting with nature and being reminded of her aliveness. Garden when you can. Grow your own food. Practice kindness with bugs. Build bug-huts and small ponds. Save and share disappearing seed varieties. Replace your lawns with native plants and wildflowers to help the local ecosystem thrive. Learn the names of the beings around you - they are neighbors, not background. Spend time outdoors at dawn or dusk-listen to bird choruses, watch the stars, and remember the cycles larger than yourself. Offer gratitude to nature.

To be rewilded is to remember that we are not separate observers of nature, but participants in a living, breathing community of beings—one in which rivers, seeds, and soil deserve our care and kinship.

  • We have no chance for a brighter tomorrow if we cannot visualize an alternative to our gloomy forecasts - if we are not clear on what we’re fighting for.

Join visionaries like Rob Hopkins on his “time-travel” mission, the Future project, where he invites us to consider: “what would the world look like if we all got to work imagining—and then building—a world we were deeply in love with?”

Dare to dream up the world you would like to see. And then figure out the steps required to make it a reality.

  • Engaging with the issues of our time can feel incredibly isolating. Discovering a like-minded community is crucial. It serves as the foundation for meaningful social transformation. When individuals with shared values unite, their combined energy, ideas, and support form a formidable force able to confront injustice and shape a brighter future. We are stronger together.

Consider joining a mutual aid organization to support your local community. Direct action is a powerful antidote to hopelessness.

  • In a world of overwhelming noise, we must learn to listen, and amplify the voices that need to be heard. Share what we learn, have difficult discussions, and dare to make noise ourselves. Attend protests, sign petitions, and contact policymakers to push for legislative reform.

The world is filled with inspiring people working overtime to make the world a better place. Whether emotionally or financially, support those fighting for change whenever able. Join the revolution.

Action on all fronts is necessary if we hope to preserve our planet and all of its treasures. If not us, then who?
